About Stann William
Stann William Givens built a legal career that blends courtroom work, committee service and firm leadership. He completed undergraduate studies at Bucknell University in 1971 and earned his J.D. from Florida State University in 1974. Those early years set the stage for a long practice in Florida law.
He began in public service. In 1974 he worked as an assistant state lawyer in Hillsborough County, then served as an assistant city lawyer for Tampa in 1975. By 1977 he moved into private practice, operating under his own name and joining partnerships that evolved over the decades into the current Givens Law Group. He has held titles ranging from sole practitioner to partner and later president of the firms that carried his name.
His firm roles trace a steady progression. He was president of Knox & Givens, P.A. in 1993 and led his own practice through several iterations. In 2009 he served as president of Givens Law Group, and in 2012 he was a founding partner of Givens Givens Sparks, PLLC. Those positions reflected both client work and day-to-day management responsibilities inside the firms.
Family law has been a central concern of his professional life. The Florida Bar has recognized him as board certified in marital and family law. He has also taken on leadership inside professional organizations. He founded the Family Law American Inn of Court of Tampa and has served as its executive director since 1995. He chaired the Florida chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ 25th Annual Institute in 2002–2003, led the chapter’s Practice Management Institute in 1997–1998 and served as chapter president in 2008–2009.
Givens has been active on local and state bar committees. He chaired the Florida Bar’s Marital and Family Law Board Certification Committee in 1996–1997 and held several chair roles in the Hillsborough County Bar Association across the early 1990s, including the Family Law Section and the Circuit Family Rules Committee. He also chaired the 13th Circuit Grievance Committee in 1994–1995 and led a lawyer referral committee earlier.
His career spans more than four decades of practice in Florida courts and bar institutions. He has combined client work, organizational leadership and committee service throughout. He currently practices marital and family law in the Tampa area, handling divorce, custody and related family law matters.
