About Stacy Jo

Stacy Jo Townsend built a legal path that crosses state lines. She began her academic journey at Coastal Carolina University, earning a B.A. before moving on to Savannah Law School for her J.D. Those years shaped the foundation of her practice and prepared her for the varied procedural and client challenges that come with multi-jurisdictional work.

After law school, Townsend sought admission in multiple state bars. She is admitted to practice in North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia. That set of credentials has allowed her to take on matters that touch more than one court system and to advise clients who have interests spanning state boundaries.

Townsend joined The Derrick Law Office in 2021. She started there as a lawyer and has continued her work with the firm since then. Her time at the office includes handling case intake, drafting pleadings, and engaging with clients and opposing counsel. She is part of a practice environment where cases often require coordination among local courts, administrative bodies and outside counsel in other states.

Colleagues describe Townsend as methodical and steady in court preparations. She balances research and practical case management. Her background in two regional universities and a regional law school informs a hands-on approach to legal work. It also gives her familiarity with the procedural variations that appear from one jurisdiction to another.

Townsend’s work at The Derrick Law Office has involved both contested and transactional elements. She is experienced in managing the paperwork and scheduling that various filings demand. She also spends time counseling clients on realistic timelines and likely outcomes. Those conversations often shape strategic choices early in a case.

Outside of direct case work, Townsend has maintained an emphasis on continual learning. Maintaining licensure in three states requires attention to differing continuing education expectations and rules of professional conduct. She adapts to those demands while keeping day-to-day client work moving forward.

As of 2026 she practices law at The Derrick Law Office and represents clients in matters across North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia.
