About Somita

Somita Basu earned her J.D. from Concord Law School at Purdue Global in 2008. She completed her legal education through a program built for working professionals, and she entered private and nonprofit practice soon after. Her academic background provided a foundation for a career that has moved between leadership roles in organizations and hands-on client work.

Early in her career Basu served in a senior-management role at Global Law Alliance. By 2012 she was Senior Vice President there, a position that combined administrative responsibility with legal oversight. That experience exposed her to the operational side of legal service delivery and gave her experience managing teams and programs outside the confines of a traditional law firm.

In 2013 Basu took time to work pro bono as a volunteer lawyer with Bay Area Legal Aid. That year of direct client service placed her in low-income community settings, helping individuals navigate civil legal problems. The volunteer role complemented her managerial work and reinforced a practice-oriented approach to law.

Two years later she moved into private practice as a founder of Norton Basu LLP. In 2014 she became a partner and co-founder of the firm, which is based in California. As a founding partner she has been involved in shaping firm policies, client intake procedures, and the strategic direction of the practice. The firm work has also kept her engaged in case work and courtroom matters.

Basu maintains membership in the California Lawyers Association and the Silicon Valley Bar Association. She is active in the Solo & Small Firm Section of the California Lawyers Association, where she serves as Vice Chair. Those roles place her among peers who work in small practice settings and provide a platform for addressing issues that affect solo practitioners and small firms in the state.

Colleagues describe her as practical and detail-oriented in case preparation and client meetings. She balances administrative responsibilities at the firm with direct representation of clients in California matters. Her career reflects movement between organizational leadership, pro bono service, and private practice.

She currently practices at Norton Basu LLP, handling California matters that include client counseling, case management, and courtroom representation.
