About Smith
Smith Prestwood trained at the University of Alabama School of Law, earning his J.D. in 2009 after completing a bachelor’s degree in quantitative corporate finance and economics at the University of Alabama in 2006. His academic background combines legal training with numerical analysis. That pairing shaped his early choices after law school.
He began his legal career in 2009 at Spear, Spear & Hamby, P.C., where he worked as an associate attorney. Those early years provided routine courtroom exposure and client work in a firm setting. He handled filings, research, and case preparation while building a practical sense of litigation mechanics and client counseling.
In 2016 he opened Prestwood Law Office, LLC. The move put him in charge of case selection and firm management. Running a small firm required switching between substantive legal work and the daily tasks of practice administration. He took on both roles and maintained an active docket while overseeing the office’s operations.
Prestwood is licensed to practice in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. He holds memberships in the Alabama State Bar, the Mississippi State Bar and the Florida State Bar. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Baldwin County Bar Association. Those affiliations reflect an interest in staying current on rules, procedure and cross-jurisdictional developments that affect clients in the Gulf Coast region.
His undergraduate studies in quantitative corporate finance and economics inform how he approaches disputes and transactions that involve numbers. He tends to break complicated financial questions into component parts and explain them plainly to clients. That background has proved useful in document review, settlement negotiations and advising on economic aspects of cases.
Colleagues describe Prestwood as methodical in preparation and straightforward in client conversations. He has handled matters that required both courtroom presence and detailed transactional work. He has balanced trial practice with managing client expectations and deadlines.
He continues to operate Prestwood Law Office, LLC and accepts matters in the states where he is licensed. He concentrates his practice on legal issues that intersect with business and financial questions and on matters requiring litigation experience in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.
