About Sherrie Marie
Sherrie Marie Flynn built a technical foundation long before she entered law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and later pursued graduate studies in business at Duquesne University. She returned to school for law and received a Juris Doctor from San Joaquin College of Law, where she studied intellectual property law.
Her engineering background shaped how she approaches legal problems. Technical training informs her reading of patents and technical disclosures. Business studies added a practical layer. Those pieces came together in law school and then in practice.
Flynn began her legal career in 2005 at Baker Manock & Jensen, PC. She worked on general litigation and client counseling matters there. In 2010 she shifted into patent-specific work as a patent lawyer at The Law Offices of Andrew D. Fortney, PC. That role had her preparing patent applications, handling patent prosecution and interacting with inventors and examiners. In 2013 she joined Coleman & Horowitt, LLP as a lawyer, where she continued to handle matters involving intellectual property.
Her mix of engineering, business and legal experience makes her comfortable on technical files. She has experience drafting patent applications, responding to office actions and advising clients on patent strategy. She has also handled related litigation tasks when disputes escalated. Colleagues describe her as methodical; clients have relied on her ability to translate technical concepts into clear legal positions.
Flynn is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions allow her to represent clients in regional federal matters as well as in state proceedings. She has worked for both boutique patent practices and full-service law firms, giving her a view of how intellectual property fits into broader business objectives.
Her practice blends technical analysis with legal procedure. She spends time evaluating inventions, preparing prosecution filings and counseling clients on patent portfolio priorities. She maintains an active practice in California and in matters that proceed to the Ninth Circuit, concentrating on patent prosecution, intellectual property counseling and related litigation matters.
