About Sherilyn

Sherilyn Bunn built a legal foundation at the United States Military Academy, where she earned a B.S. in 1994, before turning to the law. She completed her J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 2002 and later pursued an LL.M. at The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, awarded in 2009. Her academic path combined military training and formal legal education, an uncommon mix that shaped the trajectory of her career.

Her professional life has been closely tied to military justice. Bunn served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps in a succession of prosecutorial and leadership roles. She was Chief of the Claims Division in 2006, then moved into trial work as Trial Counsel in 2007 and Senior Trial Counsel in 2008. In 2010 she served as Chief, Military Justice. Those positions involved courtroom work, case management and supervision of other attorneys, and they placed her repeatedly in adversarial settings where military rules of evidence and procedure govern outcomes.

Bunn maintains admissions across civilian and military forums. She is admitted in Texas and in Kansas, though her Kansas membership is listed inactive. Since 2010 she has been admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the United States Supreme Court. She has been a member of the State Bar of Texas and the El Paso Bar Association since 2012. The mix of bar memberships and court admissions reflects a practice that spans state civil practice and specialized federal military appellate courts.

Today she serves Of Counsel at Firth Johnston Martinez. Her background in prosecuting courts-martial and overseeing claims work informs how she handles cases now. She draws on trial experience and appellate exposure to advise on military justice matters, courts-martial, claims, and related appeals. Her current practice centers on military justice and appellate matters.
