About Shawn

Shawn Gibbons earned his law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law, where he completed the coursework and training that led him into public service. His time in law school overlapped with practical clinics and courtroom observation that set the stage for work inside Florida courtrooms.

After graduating, Gibbons entered the public defender’s office in the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando. He served as an Assistant Public Defender, representing clients charged with a range of offenses. In that role he handled arraignments, pretrial hearings, plea negotiations and trials. He learned the rhythms of Florida criminal practice and the demands of zealous representation under constrained resources.

That courtroom experience became the foundation for his later practice. He joined Kanner & Pintaluga and moved into private practice while retaining the litigation skills developed at the public defender’s office. At the firm he has taken on courtroom matters, prepared motions, and managed client relationships. His background gives him familiarity with trial procedure and an understanding of how cases proceed through the state system.

Colleagues describe Gibbons as steady under pressure. He is the sort of lawyer who spends hours preparing witnesses and exhibits before a hearing, and who places equal weight on the written record. He has practical experience in case evaluation, negotiating resolutions and representing clients at trial. His work requires clear communication with clients, coordinating with investigators and staying current on Florida practice rules and procedures.

Outside the courtroom, Gibbons keeps a practical view of the law. He maintains professional memberships begun in 2015 and continues to engage with peers on matters related to practice in Florida courts. He balances casework with ongoing learning about developments in criminal procedure and trial advocacy. He now practices at Kanner & Pintaluga, where he represents clients in Florida state courts and applies his public defender experience to litigation in the private sector.
