About Shawn A.

Shawn A. Latchford earned his law degree from Baylor Law School in 2011 after completing undergraduate studies at Albion College in 2007, where he studied philosophy, political science and the intersections of law and society. He moved from a liberal arts education into law school with an interest in how courts shape public life. Those early years set a practical tone; he studied doctrine and procedure and took courses that led him toward trial and appellate work.

After law school, Latchford built a practice that spans state and federal courts. He is admitted to the bars of Arkansas and Texas and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court as well as the Fifth and Federal Circuits. That range of admissions reflects a practice that has grown to include matters that travel beyond a single courthouse. He joined Bruster PLLC as counsel in 2021 and has practiced there since.

At Bruster PLLC, Latchford’s caseload touches litigation and appellate matters. He files briefs in federal appeals and handles contested matters in state court. His courtroom work and filings reflect a lawyer who moves between trial-level process and appellate briefing. Colleagues describe him as precise in drafting and methodical in preparing records for appeal.

Outside the firm, Latchford has professional ties that mirror his career path. He has been a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation since 2017, a role that places him among lawyers who support legal education and public service projects in the state. That involvement complements his courtroom practice and keeps him connected to broader legal developments in Texas.

He maintains a presence in East Texas, operating from offices in Longview and Fort Worth. The split geography allows him to serve clients across different parts of the state and to appear in federal and state venues when cases require it. The practice balances local litigation needs with the demands of appellate procedure.

Colleagues note that Latchford favors careful legal analysis over rhetorical flourish. He tends to let the record and precedent guide his work. Today he continues as counsel at Bruster PLLC, representing clients in state and federal courts, including appellate matters.
