About Shane

Shane Smith earned his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law, receiving a J.D. in 2000. He completed his undergraduate studies at Georgia College & State University, part of the University System of Georgia, where he graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Those academic credentials set the foundation for a career split between state, federal and military forums.

After law school, Smith built a practice that spans multiple jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in Georgia, to the Federal Court for the Middle District of Georgia, and before U.S. Military Courts. Over the years he has handled matters that required familiarity with differing procedural rules and evidentiary standards. That variety of venues has required him to move between courtroom calendars, administrative hearings and written advocacy.

His background in criminal justice informs much of his work. He has experience in courtroom litigation and in advising clients on matters that intersect criminal and administrative law. In federal matters he has addressed procedural issues that arise in district court litigation. In the military context he has navigated the distinct processes used in military tribunals and related proceedings. He balances a courtroom-ready approach with written motions and appellate filings when cases require it.

Colleagues describe him as practical in litigation and steady at the lectern. He has worked on cases that demand coordination across agencies and opposing counsel. That often means preparing witnesses, drafting complex filings and handling evidentiary disputes. He also appears before administrative panels when matters do not proceed on the regular civil or criminal dockets.

Smith works out of an Atlanta office. He spends much of his time on representation that crosses state and federal lines and on matters tied to military jurisdiction. His practice continues to include litigation and administrative proceedings in Georgia, in the Federal Court of the Middle District of Georgia, and before U.S. Military Courts.

As of 2026 his day-to-day work centers on litigation and administrative advocacy across those jurisdictions, carried out from his Atlanta office.
