About Shane P
Shane P Cantin earned his undergraduate degree in political science from College of the Ozarks in 1987. He continued his studies at the University of Missouri 61 Kansas City School of Law and received his J.D. in 1993. His academic path combined small-college roots with professional legal training in Missouri.
He began his legal career in municipal service. In 1993 he joined the City of Springfield as an assistant city lawyer, handling matters that typically require attention to municipal code, local ordinances and the day-to-day legal needs of a mid-sized city. A year later he entered private practice as a partner at Crosby and Cantin, PC, where he took on a broader caseload and began building a practice outside municipal government.
In 2004 Cantin changed roles again and became of counsel at Reynolds, Gold and Grosser, PC. That position allowed him to continue representing clients while collaborating with a team of lawyers on contested matters. Over the decades he has balanced courtroom work with advisory roles, drawing on experience from both the public and private sides of the law.
His professional memberships reflect long-standing ties to criminal defense practice. Cantin has been a member of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1997. He has also belonged to the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association since 1993. Those associations place him regularly in contact with trial lawyers and defense practitioners across the state and the country.
Cantin is licensed to practice in Missouri and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He represents clients in state and federal proceedings, drawing on years of trial and appellate experience. His background in municipal law informs his approach to cases that touch on local government action and regulatory questions.
Colleagues and clients have seen him move comfortably between advisory work and litigation. He has served as a partner in a private firm, worked in city government and later took on an of counsel role in a firm environment. That mix has shaped a practical, case-driven practice style.
He currently practices criminal defense in Missouri and before the Eighth Circuit.
