About Shahid

Shahid Haque earned his Juris Doctor, with High Honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2002. He moved from law school into private practice and public-interest roles, establishing a career that mixes courtroom work, nonprofit leadership and small-firm management.

Early in his post-law school years Haque worked as an associate at Jenner & Block, LLP in 2005. He spent time at Howrey LLP and then at Browning, Kaleczyc, Berry & Hoven, P.C. in 2007. Those positions exposed him to litigation and client counseling in firms of different sizes and cultures. He carried that experience into roles that combined advocacy and organizational leadership.

In 2008 he helped found Border Crossing Law Office, P.C., where he serves as managing partner. The same year he took on a directorship at the Montana Immigrant Justice Alliance, an organization that works on immigrant legal services and related policy issues. He also became executive director of Immigration West, Inc. in 2008, a post he continues to hold. These overlapping roles reflect a professional path that runs between private practice and nonprofit work.

Haque has remained active in professional circles. He has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2007. He holds an appointed membership with the Helena International Affairs Council beginning in 2008. Those affiliations connect him to networks of immigration lawyers and local civic leaders, and they have shaped how he approaches client matters and community engagement.

His practice has centered on immigration and cross-border legal questions. At Border Crossing Law Office he handles matters that range from family- and employment-based immigration to removal defense and administrative advocacy. Colleagues and clients have noted that his approach is methodical; he breaks complex cases into steps and emphasizes procedural preparation. He is comfortable in both transactional settings and contested proceedings.

Haque balances casework with organizational responsibilities. Running a small firm requires supervising staff, managing intake, and setting office procedures. Leading nonprofit efforts requires fundraising, collaboration with community partners, and attention to policy trends that affect immigrants in Montana and elsewhere.

He maintains an office in downtown Helena and continues to practice immigration law. He currently handles immigration matters from an office in downtown Helena.
