About SETH VAN
SETH VAN AALTEN earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 2003 after completing an undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2000. His academic record placed him in the stream of lawyers who moved from a strong public university background into a private law school environment. He completed a rigorous legal education during a period of change in the legal market, then moved into practice in New York.
He is admitted to practice in New York and has federal court admissions in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Those credentials allow him to appear in both state and federal trial courts across the New York metropolitan area.
Early in his career he served as an associate at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP. At that firm he worked on matters that required litigation and courtroom familiarity, as well as transactional and advisory work for corporate clients. The associate role gave him hands-on experience in preparing pleadings, conducting discovery and supporting trial and hearing preparation for cases filed in New York courts.
He has held a professional membership since 2004. That long-standing membership reflects continuing engagement with the legal community and the professional networks that support practice in New York. Over the years he has maintained the types of licensure required for practice in state and federal courts.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and practical in client settings. His background—public university undergraduate work followed by a J.D. from a national law school—gave him a combination of broad intellectual training and the applied legal skills needed in litigation and transactional contexts. He has worked across matters handled in both state and federal venues.
He is associated with Cooley LLP in its offices listed for his practice. In that setting he continues to represent clients in matters filed in New York courts and in the federal courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. His current practice focuses on representing clients in proceedings in New York state courts and in the Eastern and Southern federal districts of New York.
