About Sergiy M

Sergiy M Sivochek built his legal foundation at the University of Minnesota Law School. He left law school with a grounding in procedure and statutory analysis. Those early lessons shaped how he approaches client problems: methodical, practical, and focused on resolving the issue at hand.

After law school he entered practice in areas that intersect law and technology. Over time he concentrated his work in intellectual property matters, handling both prosecution and disputes. His practice reflects a mix of counseling clients on portfolio strategy and representing them in contested matters.

He is admitted to practice in New York and California. That dual admission allows him to represent clients on both coasts and to handle federal matters that arise from those jurisdictions. He regularly files and responds to pleadings, prepares patent and trademark filings, and manages docketing and maintenance for client portfolios.

Colleagues describe his approach as pragmatic. He aims to translate legal standards into actionable steps for businesses and inventors. In client meetings he tends to prioritize the most efficient path to protect rights or resolve a dispute. That often means weighing the costs of litigation against settlement and alternative dispute resolution.

Sivochek’s work spans prosecution, opinion work, and enforcement. He prepares patent applications and trademark registrations. He also drafts freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses when clients face clearance or challenge issues. When matters escalate he has handled infringement responses and coordinated strategies involving federal courts and administrative forums.

Outside of filings and courtroom strategy, he spends time educating clients about the lifecycle of intellectual property. He helps startups set up initial protections and guides established companies through portfolio maintenance. The combination of transactional and adversarial work gives him a view of how IP assets can support broader business goals.

He now practices from the Sivochek IP Law Center. There he represents a range of clients, from individual inventors to small and mid-size enterprises. His current practice concentrates on patent and trademark prosecution, counseling on portfolio management, and handling enforcement and defense matters related to intellectual property.
