About Sebastian
Sebastian Okun grew up far from the rocky coastlines of Maine but chose the state for his legal education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2006 and returned to the Northeast for law school, receiving his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 2013.
He began his practical legal training while still in law school. In 2013 he served as a legal extern at the Federal Defender's Office, where he worked on matters typical of a federal defender's docket. That early exposure to criminal defense procedures and federal practice informed his approach to casework and courtroom preparation.
Soon after law school he joined Peter Thompson & Associates as a lawyer. He moved into that role in 2013 and has remained with the firm since. His time there has been spent predominantly on litigation matters. Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and pragmatic when preparing cases. He has handled pretrial motions, witness preparation, and jury work that arises from contested matters in state courts across Maine.
Okun maintains professional ties through several bar and trial organizations. He holds membership in the American Bar Association and is active in the Maine State Bar Association. He also belongs to the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships keep him connected to evolving procedural rules and local trial practice standards.
His courtroom experience is balanced by attention to case detail. He draws on his federal externship for handling procedural and evidentiary issues and on his years at a regional firm for navigating state-level litigation. He approaches discovery, motion practice, and trial calendars with an emphasis on preparation and clear presentation to judges and juries.
Outside the office he has remained engaged with legal education opportunities and regional bar events. He participates in continuing legal education programs and local bar meetings that address practice developments in Maine courts.
Today he practices at Peter Thompson & Associates in Maine. His work centers on litigation and trial preparation for state cases, and he continues to participate in the professional associations that anchor his practice.
