About Sean
Sean Maye built a practical path into law rather than a traditional one. He studied the social sciences as an undergraduate, earning a degree in psychology and sociology at Middlebury College. He later completed legal studies at the University of Miami School of Law. Those academic choices set the tone for a career that has alternated between public defense and private practice.
Maye's early work placed him inside public defender offices. Records list him as a senior associate public defender in Miami-Dade in 2012, where he handled trial work and client advocacy in a high-volume setting. He later joined Isriel Ponzoli PA as a junior associate in 2017, before moving west and taking a role as senior deputy public defender in Colorado in 2018. That mix of defense practice in two states gave him courtroom experience across different prosecutorial environments and local rules.
In 2020 he founded Maye Law Group LLC and took on the role of CEO. The firm is listed under that name as his current office. As head of his own practice, Maye has managed case strategy, client intake and the administrative side of running a small firm. Leading a practice required shifting from an exclusively trial-focused mindset to one that balances litigation with client counseling and business operations.
Maye holds memberships in professional circles that link him to Florida's legal community. He is a member of the State Bar of Florida and is licensed to practice in both Florida and Colorado. Those dual jurisdictions reflect the geographic span of his work, from Miami to points west, and the variety of procedural and substantive issues he has encountered.
Colleagues describe his background as rooted in courtroom work. His years in public defense exposed him to arraignments, felony litigation and sentencing hearings, while his time at a private firm added civil and transactional tasks to his repertoire. The cumulative effect is a practice informed by both public-service advocacy and the operational demands of running a private firm.
Today he runs Maye Law Group LLC and continues to represent clients in matters that draw on his public defender experience. His practice centers on criminal defense and related litigation, shaped by years of trial work and case management in two states.
