About Sean
Sean Berry attended the University of Notre Dame and later studied at Northwestern University School of Law. Those institutions provided the classroom foundation for a career spent largely in public service and federal practice. He moved from academic study into roles that put him inside the federal courthouse and the offices that support it.
Berry’s most prominent public role came as Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa. In that capacity he led the office that represents the United States in the district. He supervised prosecutors, managed major case decisions and handled administrative responsibilities that keep a federal office running day to day.
The job required balancing court work with coordination among agencies. Berry worked alongside federal law enforcement and local partners to bring criminal prosecutions and to defend the government’s interests in civil matters. He also handled the internal tasks of an office—allocating resources, setting litigation priorities and advising on policy questions that touch on enforcement and public safety.
Colleagues say he brought a practical approach to both litigation and management. He spent time in courtrooms across the district, arguing motions and overseeing trials, while also addressing the quieter, procedural work that shapes outcomes long before a jury is seated. That mix of courtroom presence and behind-the-scenes decision making is a hallmark of federal-office leadership and defined much of his tenure.
After his service in the Northern District of Iowa, Berry continued to practice law. He remained active in matters that arise in federal court and in work that intersects with government agencies. He currently focuses on federal litigation and government-related matters.
