About Scott
Scott Semrau built his legal foundation in two Southern schools. He earned a B.A. from Georgia State University in 1990 after beginning undergraduate studies in 1985. He then completed his J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 1995, arriving in New Orleans to study civil procedure and trial technique during a period of notable change in the region.
His early days in practice tested those classroom lessons. Over the years Semrau has worked on contested family law matters that moved through trial courts and, on occasion, reached appellate panels. He holds admission to practice before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 9th and 11th Circuits, a credential that reflects time spent handling appeals as well as trial-level litigation.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prefers straightforward argument over flourish. He has represented clients in contested divorce proceedings, property division disputes, and related family-law litigation. He prepares evidence, argues discovery battles, and takes witness testimony when cases go to trial. He also handles appellate briefs and oral argument when matters require review beyond the trial court.
Semrau maintains active membership in professional associations. That involvement keeps him connected to peers and current practice developments. He has used those networks to stay current on evolving procedure and case law that affect family-law litigation, especially where complex assets or jurisdictional issues appear.
In recent years he has been associated with Divorce Litigation Partners. At that firm he has worked on high-conflict divorce cases and post-judgment enforcement matters. His caseload has included contested custody disputes and financial disputes arising from separation. He balances courtroom work with client counseling, often guiding people through steps that must be taken long before a trial date is set.
He approaches each case as an individual assignment, shaping strategy to the legal and factual contours of a family’s situation. Outside the courtroom he keeps up with federal appellate developments given his admissions to the 9th and 11th Circuits. He currently practices at Divorce Litigation Partners and focuses on complex divorce litigation and appellate work in family-law matters.
