About Scott

Scott Peterson began his academic path in the sciences before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978, followed by a Master of Arts in molecular genetics and cancer research from the same university in 1981. After several years steeped in scientific study, he returned to school for his legal training and received a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston - Main Campus in 1983.

Peterson’s professional life has been centered in Texas. He is admitted to practice in the state and holds certification in criminal law from the Texas State Bar. Early in his legal career he became active in local practitioner groups, and he later took on leadership roles within those circles. From 1999 through 2002 he served three consecutive terms as president of the McLennan County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. That post placed him at the center of county-level defense practice and discussion for several years.

For decades Peterson has remained involved in professional associations. Records indicate membership dating back to 1984, and his long tenure in local and state organizations has kept him connected to developments in criminal practice and procedure. The certification from the Texas State Bar signals a recognized proficiency in criminal law and reflects ongoing engagement with standards that govern trial work, appeals, and related courtroom matters.

Peterson’s work draws on his scientific training as well as his courtroom experience. The combination shapes how he approaches factual issues and evidence in criminal cases. He has spent much of his career representing individuals in state criminal matters and participating in county legal institutions. He maintains an active practice in Texas, handling criminal defense matters in state courts. He currently practices criminal law in Texas, representing clients in state criminal matters.
