About Scott P.

Scott P. Martin built his legal foundation at Furman University, where he earned a B.S. degree in 1997. He went on to attend Columbia Law School and received his law degree there. The early years of his training placed him inside two federal courts that shape American law.

He served as a law clerk to Judge Alex Kozinski of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 2004. The following year he clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia at the U.S. Supreme Court, experience that exposed him to high-stakes appellate work and the mechanics of the nation’s highest tribunal.

After clerking, Martin moved into private practice and rose through firm ranks. Records show he was a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in 2013. That role involved handling appeals and other complex federal matters. He later joined Perkins Coie LLP, where he is based now and maintains an active appellate docket.

Martin is admitted in multiple jurisdictions. He holds membership in the District of Columbia Bar and the New York State Bar. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court and in a broad range of federal appellate courts, including the D.C., First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits. He also appears in federal trial courts such as the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

His work centers on appeals and federal litigation. He prepares and argues briefs before appellate panels, handles threshold jurisdictional questions, and addresses the procedural and substantive issues that determine whether a case moves forward. Clients and colleagues describe his work as detail-oriented; he has handled matters that required both fast turnaround and careful record review.

Martin’s practice intersects constitutional issues, statutory interpretation and federal civil litigation. He represents corporate and institutional clients in appeals and works on cases that require coordination across multiple courts. His career path — from Supreme Court chambers to major law firms — gives him sustained exposure to appellate strategy and briefing.

He is currently a partner at Perkins Coie LLP, where his practice focuses on appellate and complex federal litigation.
