About Scott P.

Scott P. Batey built his legal foundation at two major Michigan universities. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 1992. He stayed in the state for law school and received his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in 1995. Those years set the timetable for a practice that would move quickly from classroom to courtroom to firm ownership.

Within a year of completing law school he struck out on his own. In 1996 he founded Batey Law Office, PLLC and has remained the owner since. The early decision to open and run a firm has shaped the arc of his career. It placed him in the practical work of private practice and in the administrative role of running a small law office.

His decades in practice have been spent managing the practical realities of client work and office operations. He has overseen case intake, file management, and the kind of everyday litigation and transactional tasks that occupy most small firms. That steady work has given him a detailed sense of how to move matters through local courts and administrative processes.

Colleagues describe him as someone who knows the mechanics of a small firm. He combines the client-facing duties of a practicing lawyer with the responsibilities that come from being an owner: staffing decisions, billing systems, and maintaining client relationships over time. Those responsibilities are part of the lived experience of running a solo or small-group practice and have informed how he advises clients.

Batey’s career is a study in continuity. He established his practice soon after law school and has kept it running for more than three decades. The work is steady and grounded in routine legal practice rather than high-profile litigation or academic pursuits. That steadiness has also meant adapting to changes in the legal landscape and the shifting expectations of clients and courts since the mid-1990s.

He is currently practicing law through Batey Law Office, PLLC, where he manages the firm and provides legal services to his clients. His current practice focuses on operating the firm and serving the needs of its clients through that office.
