About Scott
Scott Nelson holds a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and an earlier bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Maryland’s University College. He finished his undergraduate work in 1999 and returned to school two decades later to earn his J.D. in 2020. The gap between degrees informs his practical approach to legal work. He blends late-career legal training with an earlier background in business.
His path to the bar included a stint in the United States Navy in 2005. That period sits alongside a series of internships and clerkships that prepared him for practice. In 2018 he worked as a legal intern at USAA and held law clerk positions that year at both Davidson Troilo Ream & Garza and Higdon, Hardy & Zuflacht. He returned to Higdon, Hardy & Zuflacht as a law clerk in 2019. Those roles gave him regular exposure to firm practice and courtroom procedures.
After graduating from law school Nelson moved quickly into practice. He took an associate lawyer role in 2020 at Bandoske & Butler, PLLC. The following year he joined Soyars & Morgan Law as an associate lawyer. He remains on the roster at Soyars & Morgan Law, P.C., where he continued to build his practice and courtroom experience through 2026. His career shows steady movement from internships and clerkships into associate-level responsibilities.
Nelson is licensed to practice in Texas. He has worked in both firm and corporate environments, and his resume reflects experience in client work, case preparation and litigation support. Colleagues describe him as methodical in legal research and attentive in client meetings. He draws on his business degree when advising clients about procedural and practical considerations that affect case strategy.
He prefers direct, practical solutions. His time in the Navy and in corporate and firm settings informs how he manages deadlines and client expectations. He also continues to take on work that lets him refine courtroom skills and to assist on complex filings. He balances trial preparation with client counseling in day-to-day practice.
He currently practices law in Texas at Soyars & Morgan Law, P.C., concentrating on matters arising in the state.
