About Scott
Scott Moriarity trained as a musician before he trained as a lawyer. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities and then went on to the William Mitchell College of Law for his J.D. That combination of disciplines shaped a methodical approach to facts and argument. It also set a pattern: careful preparation followed by clear advocacy.
Moriarity joined the State Bar of Minnesota in 2002 and has maintained his membership ever since. He is active in several local and national organizations. Those include the Federal Bar Association’s Minnesota Chapter, the Minnesota Association for Justice and the Hennepin County Bar Association. The memberships reflect ongoing engagement with colleagues across state and federal practice arenas.
His admissions extend beyond the Minnesota state courts. He is admitted to practice in the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 7th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal. That range of federal appellate admissions allows him to appear on matters that travel beyond a single state’s borders. It also means he routinely addresses issues of federal law and appellate procedure in written briefs and oral argument.
Colleagues describe Moriarity as thorough and deliberate in his preparation. He tends to break complex problems into discrete questions that can be briefed and argued efficiently. He has experience assembling records for appeal and drafting appellate briefs that walk a court through the critical facts and legal standards. Those skills are complemented by participation in bar events and continuing legal education programs offered through his professional associations.
Moriarity practices at Wanta Thome PLC. At the firm he handles matters that range from pretrial litigation work through appellate proceedings. He represents clients before state tribunals and in federal appellate courts, bringing issues forward for judicial review when the legal stakes require it. That work includes preparing pleadings, managing discovery disputes and arguing before appellate panels.
Outside the office he has continued ties to Minnesota’s legal community through the associations listed in his professional profile. He keeps up with developments in appellate law and participates in programs that discuss best practices for trial and appellate advocacy. He currently practices at Wanta Thome PLC, where his work includes representing clients in matters that may proceed to state courts and federal appeals courts.
