About Scott J.
Scott J. Curtis built a path to law through a mix of liberal arts study and a business-oriented legal education. He earned a B.A. from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where he studied philosophy and sociology and completed a minor in theology. He went on to receive his J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 2012, completing coursework that included a concentration in law and business.
His first taste of practice came while he was still connected to the firm that would shape the early part of his career. He served as a law clerk at O’Flaherty Heim Egan & Birnbaum, Ltd. in 2010. That position gave him hands-on exposure to firm workflows and client matters. After law school he joined the firm as an associate in 2012 and moved through roles of increasing responsibility over the next several years.
In 2017 his role changed to shareholder at O’Flaherty Heim Birnbaum Kirchner & Curtis, Ltd., reflecting a longer-term investment in the firm’s work and governance. Three years later he formed or joined Curtis Law Office, LLC as a shareholder, taking a leadership role in a smaller, locally based practice. These shifts mark a transition from associate to firm leadership and then to a practice under his own firm name.
Curtis is licensed to practice law in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. He maintains a presence in southeastern Minnesota through multiple office locations, including a main office and branch offices in Winona and Fountain City. That geographic spread allows him to serve clients on both sides of the Mississippi River and to handle matters that arise in nearby counties and communities.
Outside the office he participates in several fraternal and civic organizations. He is a third-degree Knight of Columbus, a role he has held since 2005. He joined the Gateway Area Council of Scouts BSA’s board in 2014 and remains involved there. He is also a Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a title he assumed in 2014. These affiliations reflect ongoing community ties and extracurricular commitments.
Colleagues describe Curtis as someone who has moved steadily from clerking to firm leadership and then to operating a practice under his own name. He continues to practice through Curtis Law Office, LLC, serving clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin from offices in Winona, Fountain City and a main location.
