About Scott Darrell
Scott Darrell Schwartz built his foundation in law at two California schools. He earned a B.A. in Law and Society from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1977. He then completed his J.D. at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1981. Those years shaped his approach to cases and to courtroom practice.
After law school he entered practice in California. Over the years he has taken cases into state court and into federal courtrooms. He is admitted to practice in California and is authorized to appear before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California. That combination of state and federal admissions has governed much of his day-to-day work.
His professional home is Rust, Armenis & Schwartz. He has practiced there through multiple cycles of legal change and shifting court procedures. Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and exacting in preparation. He handles filings, motions and hearings, and he represents clients in contested matters across jurisdictions he is admitted to.
Clients and opposing counsel find him straightforward. He writes plainly and argues to the point. He has experience navigating local rules in Northern and Eastern District courts, and he applies that procedural knowledge to case management and litigation strategy. Courtroom practice and the demands of federal procedure are part of his routine.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained connections to the legal community through ongoing practice at his firm. He has worked on cases that required coordination among counsel, judges and court staff. He also assists in preparing briefs and motions that respond to the specific procedures of the courts where he appears.
Over a career that began in the early 1980s, he has balanced courtroom work with the administrative tasks of legal practice. He focuses his work at Rust, Armenis & Schwartz on matters pursued in California state courts and in the Northern and Eastern Districts of the federal courts.
