About Scott

Scott Carlson built his legal foundation at Roger Williams University. He completed a B.A. in political science in 2006 and earned his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2009. During law school he took on editorial duties for the Roger Williams University Law Review, serving as Executive Notes and Comments Editor in 2008 and 2009.

After graduation he spent a year inside the state judiciary. In 2009 he served as a law clerk to the Rhode Island Supreme Court. That role put him close to appellate briefing and judicial decision-making, sharpening his research and writing at an early stage of his career.

He moved into private practice almost immediately. By 2010 he was a partner at Carlson & Dumeer, LLC. The firm has been the center of his professional life since then. Over time his work has bridged matters across neighboring states, reflecting the three jurisdictions in which he practices: Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Carlson’s professional memberships track his regional engagement. He has been a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association since 2009 and joined the Connecticut Bar Association in 2010. Outside the bar, he participates in community and civic groups, including the Middlesex United Way’s Community Impact Council and The Young Leaders Society. Those ties speak to a practice that extends beyond the courtroom and into local civic life.

Colleagues describe him as someone who brought appellate courtroom experience into day-to-day client work early in his career. That background informs how he approaches legal questions now. He applies the research habits and briefing discipline from the court to matters handled at the firm. His law review experience also shaped an attention to drafting and citation that shows up in filings and client communications.

Today he continues to practice at Carlson & Dumeer, LLC. He represents clients in matters across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut, drawing on both his judicial clerkship and his years in private practice.
