About Scott A
Scott A Shoemaker entered higher education as a musician and stayed there long enough to earn a doctorate. He completed a Ph.D. in Music at the University of Iowa in 2003 after earlier earning a Master of Music from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2001 and a Bachelor of Music from Coe College in 1997. Those academic years gave him discipline and a sense of research that would later surface in a different profession.
His transition into legal and compliance work was gradual. He held roles outside the courtroom that exposed him to contracts and regulatory work. In 2006 he became a licensed insurance agent for GEICO. A few years later he taught as an adjunct instructor at Kirkwood Community College. Those positions were followed by a series of legal-support roles: legal clerk work for Nebraskans for Civic Reform and a compliance clerk position at National Indemnity Company in 2012. He then served as a law clerk at Waggoner Law Office in 2013.
Shoemaker moved into practice ownership in 2014, opening Shoemaker Law Office. He later worked as a contracts analyst for Pearson in 2016. In 2018 he assumed a managing role at Scott Shoemaker and Associates, PLC, where he continues to oversee operations. He holds current membership in the Iowa State Bar and is authorized to practice in that jurisdiction.
His background crosses several fields that commonly intersect with legal work: contracts, insurance and compliance. The combination of practical industry experience and legal training shapes how he approaches client matters. He brings an analytical style honed partly in academic research and partly through hands-on roles in corporate and nonprofit settings. Those experiences inform day-to-day decisions at his firm.
At Scott Shoemaker & Associates, PLC he handles matters that reflect his prior roles, applying procedural knowledge from contract review and regulatory compliance to client problems. He manages the firm and engages in casework for clients in Iowa. His current practice centers on advising clients on insurance-related issues, contract matters and compliance concerns in Iowa.
