About Scott A.
Scott A. Kelly began his academic path at Transylvania University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and religion. He then turned to law, completing his J.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Those academic choices reflect a mix of interests in human stories and structured analysis, and they set the groundwork for a career that moves between fact patterns and legal rules.
After law school Kelly joined Roberts & Kelly, LLP in 2009. He practices in Ohio and is also admitted to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Over the years he has remained active in local and state bar organizations, holding current memberships in the Ohio State Bar Association, the Miami County Bar Association, and the Shelby County Bar Association. These memberships keep him tied to regional practice developments and to other lawyers who handle similar matters.
Kelly holds certification from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. That credential covers the techniques officers use during roadside evaluations and the procedures for scoring and documenting those tests. The training informs how he reviews evidence in cases that involve impaired driving allegations and how he assesses the reliability of field observations recorded by law enforcement.
At Roberts & Kelly, LLP Kelly has worked across the firm’s locations since joining in 2009. His experience there has included handling court appearances and filings in municipal and county courts, as well as in federal appellate proceedings when cases have reached that level. He brings courtroom experience and an understanding of procedural rules to the matters he handles.
Colleagues describe Kelly as practical in his approach to casework. He tends to break complex factual records into discrete issues and to address each one in turn. That method applies whether he is challenging the basis for a traffic stop, scrutinizing the administration of a field sobriety test, or preparing appellate briefs for higher court review.
He practices at Roberts & Kelly, LLP, handling matters in Ohio and before the Sixth Circuit, including cases that involve field sobriety testing and related evidence.
