About Sarah
Sarah Martin followed an unconventional path to the law. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology from Tennessee Technological University in 2005, then pursued public administration, completing a Master of Public Administration at Tennessee State University in 2012. After several years bridging public policy and community work, she returned to school and received her J.D. from Belmont University College of Law in 2019.
Her academic background gave her a broad view of how institutions work. In law school she concentrated on classroom work and clinic projects that involved detailed research and client interaction. Those experiences shaped the practical skills she brought into practice: careful legal research, drafting, and an orientation toward problem solving that considers both legal rules and real-world consequences.
After law school she began working as an associate at The Higgins Firm PLLC. In that role she handles the day-to-day tasks that keep cases moving. She prepares pleadings and motions, composes memoranda, conducts discovery, and assists in preparing witnesses and exhibits for hearing and trial. Her work also includes routine client communication and counseling, helping clients understand procedural steps and likely timelines.
Martin maintains an active membership in the State Bar of Tennessee. That membership anchors her practice to the professional standards and continuing legal education requirements of the jurisdiction. Colleagues describe her as even-tempered and exacting in her preparation. She approaches each matter by breaking complex issues into manageable parts and mapping out practical next steps.
Outside the office, her earlier training in public administration continues to inform her perspective. It gives her a sense of how legal outcomes intersect with public systems and policy considerations. That background can be useful in cases where regulatory context, administrative procedures, or public programs are relevant to a client’s situation.
She remains based at The Higgins Firm PLLC, where she works on litigation support, client counseling, and transactional matters. Her current practice continues to emphasize careful preparation, clear client communication, and steady courtroom and negotiation support.
