About Sarah Elizabeth
Sarah Elizabeth Hovland has built a steady legal career in Washington state over the past decade and a half. She practices at Washington Family Law Group, PLLC, where her work centers on family law matters. She is known around courtrooms for a careful, methodical approach and for handling contested cases in and out of court.
Her academic path began at the University of Washington's Bothell campus, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2002. She then moved on to Gonzaga University School of Law and received her J.D. in 2008. After law school she completed an LL.M. at the University of Warwick School of Law in 2009, an uncommon step that broadened her exposure to comparative legal perspectives.
Hovland's early legal experience included internships that shaped her understanding of both community and international employment issues. In 2006 she interned with University Legal Assistance, and in 2007 she spent time with the Irish Business and Employers Confederation. Those positions preceded a role at the Unemployment Law Project in 2010, where she worked on cases involving unemployment benefits and administrative hearings.
She joined The Redford Law Office in 2011 as an associate attorney. In 2014 she began practicing at Washington Family Law Group, PLLC. Her time there has been spent representing individuals in family law disputes, preparing pleadings, negotiating settlements and appearing in hearings before state and federal tribunals.
Hovland is admitted to practice in Washington and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. She holds membership in the State Bar of Washington (since 2010), the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association (since 2011), the King County Bar Association (since 2014), the Snohomish County Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Washington. These memberships reflect a steady presence in local and federal legal communities and regular participation in continuing legal education.
Colleagues describe her work as deliberate and thorough. She tends to take on the procedural heavy lifting in complex family cases and works to keep clients informed through each phase of litigation. Outside the office she has maintained ties to legal organizations in the region and continued to refine her courtroom practice.
She currently practices at Washington Family Law Group, PLLC and represents clients in family law matters including divorce, child custody, child support, and property division.
