About Sarah E.
Sarah E. Kay combines training in education, business and law. She earned a B.S. in middle school education and Spanish from Gordon College in 1999 and an M.Ed. from Worcester State College in 2003. She later returned to school at Stetson University, earning both a J.D. and an MBA in 2010. That mix of degrees informs how she approaches clients and cases today.
Her entry to the law came through hands-on work in a firm setting. In 2006 she joined Sessums Black Caballero Ficarrotta as a receptionist, file clerk and paralegal. Four years later she became a lawyer at the same firm. Those years in a busy practice exposed her to the daily mechanics of family law, courtroom procedure and document management. The progression from support roles to attorney gave her practical perspective on how a law office operates.
Kay is admitted to practice in Florida and before the Federal Circuit. She is board certified in Marital and Family Law by The Florida Bar and is a Certified Family Law Mediator recognized by the Florida Supreme Court. Those credentials reflect formal recognition of her work in family law and mediation and support her role in both negotiated and contested matters.
Her practice intersects several approaches to resolving family disputes. She handles divorce, child custody and support matters, as well as property division and enforcement actions. She participates in collaborative law practice and serves as a mediator, and she belongs to professional networks that concentrate on alternatives to litigation. Her memberships include the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and Next Generation Divorce, both since 2015, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts since 2014. She also maintains long-standing membership in local and statewide bar groups, including the Hillsborough Association for Women Lawyers, the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, the Hillsborough County Bar Association and The Florida Bar, all beginning in 2010.
Now based at Kay Family Law PLLC, she represents clients in family law matters across Florida and in appropriate federal venues. Her background in education and business continues to shape how she prepares cases, communicates with clients and works through settlement negotiations. She currently practices family law and mediation at Kay Family Law PLLC.
