About Sarah
Sarah Carmody earned her law degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law in 2008. She earlier completed a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology at Ball State University in 2003. Those years shaped the practical and analytical approach she brings to legal work. She is admitted to practice in both Kansas and Missouri and has built a career centered on courtroom work and client counseling.
After law school she joined Buckley & Hutchings, LLC as a lawyer and owner in 2008. That period gave her early experience running a practice and handling a steady docket of matters. In 2012 she opened her own firm, Sarah Carmody Law, where she continued to handle cases and manage firm operations. Running a small firm has kept her involved in every aspect of representation, from initial intake to trial preparation.
Carmody’s bar and professional activity extends beyond her office. She has been a member of the Kansas Bar Association since 2012 and joined the Family Law Section’s Executive Council in 2017, a role she continues to hold. She has belonged to the Johnson County Bar Association since 2012 and served as secretary of its Solo and Small Firm Committee from 2016 to 2017. Between 2014 and 2019 she was an associate member of the American Inns of Court, Johnson County Family Law Chapter. These roles reflect ongoing engagement with local and statewide legal communities.
Her daily practice centers on family law matters. She represents clients in a variety of disputes and proceedings, including dissolution, custody, and support issues. In court she handles hearings and trials; in the office she focuses on case strategy and client communication. Colleagues describe a lawyer who combines courtroom poise with practical case management. Clients working with her encounter direct counsel and an approach shaped by years of small-firm practice.
Carmody balances casework with the administrative duties of running a firm. She remains active in professional organizations and attends local bar events and family law programs. Her office is based under the name Sarah Carmody Law LLC, where she continues to serve individuals and families. Her current practice concentrates on family law matters in Kansas and Missouri.
