About Sara J.

Sara J. Trezise trained first as an artist and later as a lawyer. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from Indiana State University before turning to law and graduating from Suffolk University Law School in 1987. That combination of visual sensibility and legal training has shaped an approach to evidence and storytelling in the courtroom.

After law school, Trezise qualified to practice in Massachusetts and in federal courts. She is admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions indicate work at both trial and appellate levels and the procedural reach to pursue cases across state and federal forums.

Her practice over the years has included litigation in state and federal court and work on appeals. Colleagues describe her as a practitioner who spends careful time on briefing and on preparing witnesses. In court she has handled evidentiary questions, oral argument and procedural motions. On appeal she has prepared briefs and presented questions of law to appellate panels.

Trezise’s background in photography informs a particular attention to the visual aspects of a file: exhibits, demonstratives and how a narrative reads when reduced to documents and images. That attention permeates how files are organized and how courtroom presentations are staged. It is a practical skill set rather than an aesthetic one; it affects case preparation, not publicity.

Her admissions to the First Circuit and to the U.S. Supreme Court reflect an appellate dimension to her work. She has managed matters that travel beyond state court calendars and that require familiarity with federal procedure and appellate standards of review. She also handles matters that begin in the trial courts, moving them through discovery and toward resolution or appeal.

Throughout her career she has balanced courtroom work with written advocacy. She expects clarity in motion practice and precision in briefs. She also places value on preparing clients for the procedural realities of litigation, from scheduling orders to the demands of discovery.

Trezise maintains an active practice that spans trial and appellate matters in Massachusetts and federal courts, including the First Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Her current practice focuses on litigation and appellate advocacy in those courts.
