About Samuel Toevs

Samuel Toevs Creason blends an engineering background and a law degree in a practice that spans patent and civil litigation. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho in 2006 and a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law in 2009. The technical training informs how he approaches complex technical disputes and patent matters.

He began his legal career in the federal appellate system, clerking for the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2009. That year in chambers offered an early immersion in appellate procedure and opinion drafting. He moved into private practice the following year as an associate at Creason, Moore, Dokken & Geidl, PLLC, where he handled litigation matters and supported district and appellate work.

Creason became a partner at the same firm in 2014. As a partner he assumed greater responsibility for case strategy and client counseling. His time at the firm has included trial preparation, motions practice and briefing in federal appeals. The firm listing shows him in an office tied to that group.

He is admitted to practice in Idaho and Washington, and in the federal courts that handle patent appeals, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Circuit. That combination of state and federal admissions lets him handle matters that move from district courts to appellate review. He regularly prepares appellate briefs and represents clients in court filings across those jurisdictions.

Professional memberships reflect the mix of defense and patent work in his practice. He has been a member of the Defense Research Institute since 2011 and the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel since 2011. He joined the National Association of Patent Practitioners in 2011, and has been active in the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association since 2014. He also participates in the Inns of Court, a group he joined in 2010, where practicing lawyers and judges discuss ethics, procedure and advocacy.

Colleagues describe Creason as methodical and detail-oriented in the courtroom and in written advocacy. His training in mechanical engineering supports technical case analysis, while his appellate experience informs written strategy. He practices at Creason, Moore, Dokken & Geidl, PLLC, handling patent matters, civil defense litigation and appeals in federal courts as part of his current practice focus.
