About Samuel Carlson

Samuel Carlson Higginbottom began his professional path in an uncommon place for a lawyer: the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering in 2005. The technical training and operational experience that come from that background have continued to inform his approach to legal problems.

He returned to the classroom for law in the next phase of his career and received a Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 2010. After law school he moved into practice that spans two different legal landscapes. He is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and in Florida, which has shaped where and how he represents clients.

His early years in the profession included courtroom work and counseling for individuals and businesses. That combination exposed him to litigation and transactional matters. Colleagues say he brings an engineer’s attention to detail to complex factual scenarios, and clients have engaged him on disputes that required both legal analysis and an understanding of technical subject matter.

Over time he established his own office. He now practices under the name Law Office of Samuel C Higginbottom. From that base he has handled cases and client matters that arise under the laws of his licensed jurisdictions. Operating a small firm has required him to manage both the legal work and the practical side of running a practice.

Higginbottom’s work bridges two skill sets. His marine engineering education gives him a grounding in technical issues that can surface in accidents, equipment disputes, regulatory compliance, and cargo matters. His legal training and courtroom experience provide the tools to present those issues to judges, regulators, and opposing counsel. That combination can be useful when factual complexity is central to a client’s problem.

He maintains a private practice that serves clients in the District of Columbia and Florida. He represents individuals and entities in matters that require litigation, regulatory navigation, and technical analysis. He practices at the Law Office of Samuel C Higginbottom, and his current practice focuses on legal matters arising under District of Columbia and Florida law.
