About Sam
Sam Coffey has built a long career in Florida law that began after he finished law school in the early 1990s. He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1992 after completing a B.A. in psychology at the University of New Haven in 1988. Those academic years framed an interest in how law and human behavior intersect, a theme that has threaded through his work ever since.
He entered private practice and over time took on increasingly prominent roles at plaintiff-oriented firms. In 2014 he served as a partner at Coffey Trial Law. Later, in 2021, he became managing partner at Coffey McPharlin. Those positions put him in day-to-day charge of case strategy, client relations, and firm operations.
Coffey’s professional affiliations map a steady presence in plaintiff trial circles. He has been a member of the American Association for Justice since 2006 and joined the Brain Injury Association of Florida in 2009. He became an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2011 and has held Super Lawyers membership since 2012. Peers and directories have recognized him as well; he appears in Best Lawyers in America from 2020 and in Best Law Offices in America starting in 2021. Since 2014 he has been listed by the National Trial Lawyers among the Top 100 in Plaintiff’s Personal Injury.
Colleagues describe him as a trial lawyer who spends much of his time preparing cases for court and settlement negotiations. He has worked on cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries, and his involvement with the Brain Injury Association of Florida reflects an ongoing interest in neurological injury claims. Community work also appears on his resume; he has been affiliated with Habitat for Humanity since 2006.
His courtroom work and organizational memberships indicate steady engagement in both local and national trial communities. He has combined firm leadership with casework, moving from partner roles into management while continuing to handle litigation. That mix has shaped how he allocates resources and mentors younger attorneys in the firms he has led.
Today he is managing partner at Coffey McPharlin. He represents injured plaintiffs in personal injury matters, including brain injury and other catastrophic-injury cases, and continues to split his time between trial preparation, court appearances, and firm leadership.
