About Sam C.

Sam C. Ehrlich brings together formal training in sport management and legal education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts in 2011, a Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2014, and completed a Ph.D. in Sport Management at Florida State University in 2020. His academic trajectory reflects a sustained interest in the governance and organizational side of athletics.

After completing his J.D., Ehrlich became a member of the New Jersey State Bar in 2014. He has balanced academic roles with legal credentials since then. Early in his career he served as an adjunct professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, teaching courses that drew on both his legal training and his sport management background. He later accepted a position at Boise State University, where he is an assistant professor in the College of Business and Economics.

Ehrlich’s work sits at the intersection of sport management and law. His doctoral work sharpened his understanding of institutional governance, compliance systems, and the regulatory frameworks that govern collegiate and professional sport. In the classroom he has taught undergraduate and graduate students about sport policy, organizational behavior in sport, and risk management. In academic settings he advises students on research projects and supervises applied work that connects scholarship to industry problems.

On the legal side, Ehrlich’s New Jersey bar membership underpins a practice informed by regulatory and contractual matters common in athletics. He has experience explaining statutory and institutional rules to nonlawyers, translating complex provisions into practical steps for administrators, coaches, and athletes. His combined training allows him to assess disputes, review agreements, and advise organizations about compliance with governing bodies.

Colleagues describe Ehrlich as methodical in his approach to both research and legal issues. He favors careful analysis over quick answers. That orientation shows in his classroom preparation and in the work he does for campus and external clients. He continues to publish and present in academic venues and to engage with practitioners who manage sport organizations.

Ehrlich divides his time between teaching, scholarship, and legal work. He is licensed in New Jersey and maintains a practice concentrating on sports law and related regulatory matters.
