About Salim
Salim Khayoumi studied history and related fields at the University of New Mexico before earning his law degree from Washburn University School of Law. He carried the academic training from those campuses into a legal career in New Mexico. His path combined classroom study with practical legal work, shaping an approach that values clear legal reasoning and attention to procedure.
After law school he entered practice in New Mexico, where he is licensed to appear in state courts. Over the years he has handled matters that arise from routine hearings to more complex court proceedings. He has built a practice that responds to clients’ immediate needs and the longer arc of a case. Colleagues describe him as methodical and straightforward in preparing for hearings and in advising clients about potential outcomes.
Khayoumi holds membership in the National College for DUI Defense. That membership signals regular engagement with training and developments in impaired-driving law. It also connects him to a network of lawyers who share technical resources and case strategies. His work frequently involves the scientific and procedural questions that appear in impaired-driving cases, including evidence handling, field testing, and statutory interpretation.
In practice he takes on cases across criminal and traffic law that intersect with DUI issues. He represents clients at initial appearances, pretrial motions, and hearings where technical evidence and police procedure are at issue. He pays particular attention to the sequence of events that lead to arrest, the conduct of law enforcement, and the admissibility of test results. He aims to give clients a clear explanation of the law and the realistic options available at each stage of a case.
Outside the courtroom he pursues continuing legal education and discussions about best practices among defense lawyers. He participates in seminars and professional gatherings that concentrate on impaired-driving defense. Those activities inform how he prepares for hearings and how he communicates complex legal points to clients. He currently focuses his practice on DUI defense and related criminal matters in New Mexico.
