About Salim A.
Salim A. Khayoumi studied political science and pre-medical coursework at the University of New Mexico before turning to law. He earned his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law and moved into public-service legal work soon after graduating. His academic background gives him a mix of analytical training and courtroom preparation.
He entered the legal profession in the late 2000s and served as an Assistant District Lawyer in two separate judicial districts. In 2009 he worked in the 5th Judicial District Lawyer's Office and the following year he served in the 2nd Judicial District Lawyer's Office. Those early years in district offices exposed him to a wide range of criminal matters and courtroom practice.
By 2011 he launched Khayoumi Law Office. Since then he has maintained a private practice while retaining active membership in several professional organizations. He is admitted to practice in New Mexico and to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. He also participates in national groups that concentrate on trial advocacy and criminal defense.
His professional affiliations include long-standing memberships in the State Bar of New Mexico, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association and the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He joined the National College for DUI Defense and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in the early 2010s. He is also listed in the Lawyer Network for Hague Convention cases through the U.S. Department of State, reflecting involvement in cross-border custody and related matters.
Colleagues and clients have seen him handle cases that range from misdemeanor matters to complex felony charges, and he has experience litigating in both state and federal court. His memberships in trial-oriented organizations suggest regular engagement with courtroom practice and continuing legal education. He has also been part of national attorney organizations since the late 2000s.
Outside of casework he is active in professional networks that address trial strategy and DUI defense issues. He has been associated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon as an alumnus and was inducted as a McNair National Scholar earlier in his academic career. These affiliations indicate a continued connection to academic and professional communities.
He practices from Khayoumi Law Office and handles criminal defense, DUI matters, federal cases, and Hague Convention issues as part of his current practice focus.
