About Ryan
Ryan Peabody studied history at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a B.A. in 2007. He then went on to receive his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2010. Those academic years set the stage for a career spent largely in public defense and criminal advocacy.
He began practicing in Northern California soon after law school, serving as a deputy public defender in Lassen County in 2011. He moved to Santa Barbara County in 2012, again working as a deputy public defender. Those early years pinned him to courtroom work and client-facing defense duties. In 2014 he took on a classroom role, teaching criminal procedure as an adjunct professor at the Southern California Institute of Law, a year before taking a position with the Montana Office of State Public Defender in 2015.
Peabody’s career has alternated between county-level public defense and state public defender offices. He returned to the Montana Office of State Public Defender again in 2019 and also served that year as a deputy public defender in El Dorado County. The record shows repeated roles where he handled arraignments, motions, trials and client interviews. He has maintained connections to professional associations over the years, including memberships in the Montana State Bar, the California Public Defenders Association, the California Lawyers for Criminal Justice and the California DUI Lawyers Association. He also holds memberships in Montana and Colorado trial-related organizations.
In 2022 he established Peabody Law PLLC. The firm listing indicates a private practice operating alongside his prior public defense work. He is admitted to practice in California and Montana, and he is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. Records also list Colorado among his jurisdictions. His association memberships include both state bars and specialty groups oriented to criminal practice and trial work.
Peabody’s background blends courtroom work, teaching and both county and state public defender experience. He handles criminal defense matters and has been involved in DUI-related practice through professional association ties. He represents clients in criminal cases in California and Montana through Peabody Law PLLC.
