About Ryan L.
Ryan L. Thompson built his legal foundation at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a B.A. in English in 2000. He went on to Baylor Law School and received his J.D. in 2004. Early honors came in law school; he belonged to the Order of Barristers, a recognition of advocacy skills, and those courtroom instincts carried into practice.
Thompson moved into private practice after law school and advanced quickly. He became a partner at Watts Guerra LLP in 2009, where he handled complex civil litigation and gained trial experience. In 2017 he left to start a new chapter as managing partner of Thompson Law. Over the years his work has cut across state lines. He holds licenses in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Texas, Arizona, and Oklahoma.
Courtroom work and client advocacy have been recurring themes in Thompson’s career. He has served on trial lawyer groups and on CLE committees that shape practical training for other lawyers. His name appears on editorial advisory rosters; he was part of Law360’s Product Liability Editorial Advisory Board from 2014 to 2016. That stint reflected an interest in product liability litigation and the technical issues such cases raise.
Outside the office, Thompson has taken on a range of association roles. He has held membership in the College of the State Bar of Texas since 2007 and served on the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association board beginning in 2015. He joined the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association CLE Committee in 2018 and maintains ties to the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. Several organizations list him as a member or fellow, including the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, where his membership began in 2019.
His practice has also touched alternative dispute resolution. He holds a lifetime membership with 9019 Bankruptcy Arbitration & Mediation LLC, showing experience with arbitration and mediation settings as well as jury trials. The mix of trial work, arbitration and written analysis marks his day-to-day work.
Thompson runs a firm that handles injury and complex civil matters across multiple jurisdictions. He manages litigation teams, prepares cases for trial and also works on settlement strategy. He handles personal injury and product liability cases across several states.
