About Ryan K.
Ryan K. Lee built his legal foundation on two Southern California campuses. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in social science from California State University, San Diego State University in 2003. Three years later he received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. Those academic years set the stage for a career that has moved between private practice and public service.
He began practicing in Texas and joined the Rockwall legal community soon after. In 2009 he worked at the Law Offices of G. David Smith, P.C., where he handled matters typical of a busy practice and learned courtroom work. The Rockwall County Bar Association lists him as a member beginning that same year, and he remains involved in county bar activities.
By 2011 Lee had expanded his professional affiliations. He joined the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice. Those memberships signaled an interest in trial advocacy. In 2013 he stepped into government service as general counsel to the Senate Jurisprudence Committee of the Texas State Senate. In that role he advised legislators and assisted with the legal review of bills under consideration by the committee.
Two years later he returned to private practice in a leadership position. In 2015 Lee became a partner at Smith & Lee, Lawyers, P.C. That move formalized a long-standing working relationship with local colleagues and placed him in a role that combines casework, client counseling and firm management. He also joined the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Rockwall County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2015 and maintains those memberships.
Colleagues and court records show a practitioner who litigates contested matters. His association memberships and court appearances reflect regular criminal-defense work and civil trial practice. He has handled cases in state courts and remains active in the trial bar, participating in events organized by the associations to which he belongs.
Today Lee practices from Smith & Lee, Lawyers, P.C. He manages trial preparation, represents clients in criminal matters, and handles civil litigation in Texas courts. He continues to participate in local and statewide legal organizations while maintaining a private practice in Rockwall County and elsewhere in Texas.
