About Ryan E.
Ryan E. Sanada serves as the Director of Legal and Government Affairs at the Hawaii Employers Council, located at 2682 Waiwai Loop in Honolulu, Hawaii. Since joining the Hawaii State Bar in 2000, he has dedicated his career to supporting employers throughout the state. The Hawaii Employers Council provides essential human resources support, helping organizations navigate complex employment laws and regulations. In 2000, Sanada earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, graduating cum laude.
While in law school, he contributed to the Law Review, honing his legal writing and analytical skills. Prior to attending law school, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Puget Sound in 1997. This gives a unique perspective on human behavior—an asset in his legal practice. His professional journey began as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Honolulu from 2000 to 2002 — In this role, he gained invaluable courtroom experience, handling various criminal cases. Following this position, he served as a Legal Advisor to the Hawaii State Legislature's House Labor Committee from 2005 to 2006. This experience allowed him to influence labor policies and understand the legislative process, further enhancing his expertise in labor and employment law.
From 2002 to 2012, Sanada practiced labor and employment law at Imanaka Kudo & Fujimoto. His work during this decade solidified his reputation in the field, as he represented clients in various labor disputes and compliance matters. In addition to his legal practice, he holds a real estate license and has actively engaged in real estate sales, particularly in partition or divorce proceedings. His dual expertise in law and real estate has enabled him to effectively navigate complex legal issues for his clients. Sanada has also contributed to the professional development of others in the field. He has taught continuing education courses to fellow realtors, sharing his insights on the intersection of real estate and law.
In 2016, he received an AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, recognizing his high ethical standards and legal ability. His involvement in the Hawaii State Bar Association includes serving as an officer and director of the Young Lawyers Division, as well as participating in various legal and community organizations. Committed to giving back, he has been active in pro bono legal work, further demonstrating his dedication to the legal profession and the community.
