About Ruth

Ruth Ryan-Cruz attended California Western School of Law, where she earned her J.D. The law school connection has continued: she later joined the school's alumni association as a director and kept close ties to the San Diego legal community.

Her legal career began behind the scenes. In 2007 she worked as a legal assistant at Friesen, Guy & Associates. That role gave her early exposure to case preparation and client work. By 2010 she was listed as a lawyer at Kehr Law, APC, stepping into a more active role in client counsel and litigation support.

In 2015 she opened Ryan-Cruz Law, APC. Running a small firm has meant juggling case strategy, client intake and the business side of practice. She has carried forward the hands-on approach from earlier roles while building a local practice in California.

Ryan-Cruz maintains a steady presence in professional groups. She has belonged to the San Diego County Bar Association since 2009 and joined the Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association in 2012. She also holds memberships in the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association and Trustegrity, both of which connect lawyers with community and practice-area networks. Her membership in WealthCounsel reflects engagement with colleagues who work on trusts and estate planning. Since 2012 she has served as a director of the California Western School of Law Alumni Association.

Those affiliations signal the kinds of networks she draws on for client work. Colleagues and clients can expect an attorney who mixes courtroom-adjacent experience from earlier firm work with the procedural and document-handling demands of small-firm practice. She has experience across matters that commonly arise for private practitioners in the region and in federal practice settings through her association memberships.

Her day-to-day work involves case management, client counseling and coordination with other professionals when matters touch on specialized areas. She balances the administrative demands of running a firm with direct client representation. Her background as a legal assistant and then as an associate informs how she organizes files and prepares legal arguments.

She is licensed to practice in California and leads Ryan-Cruz Law, APC, where her practice focuses on representing clients in a range of California legal matters.
