About Russell J.
Russell J. Adkins began his legal career in the courthouse, serving as a law clerk to the Hon. John C. Reed at the Court of Common Pleas of Mercer County in 2007. That year introduced him to the rhythms of state court practice and gave him an early look at how judges weigh factual records and legal argument. The clerkship laid a foundation for steady work in Pennsylvania courts.
He moved into private practice the following year. In 2008 he joined Ekker, Kuster, McCall & Epstein, LLP as an associate lawyer. Over the next decade he progressed through the firm’s ranks and became a partner there in 2018. His years at Ekker, Kuster, McCall & Epstein coincided with sustained involvement in local bar activities and collaborative professional groups, an indication of how his professional life expanded beyond the office.
In 2023 he took a partner role at Brouse McDowell, LPA. That period added a different institutional perspective to his resume and broadened the range of matters he handled. A year later he moved again, joining Margaret T. Lucas, Lawyer at Law, P.C. as a partner in 2024. Those moves reflect a career that has combined courtroom work, firm management and participation in alternative dispute resolution networks.
Adkins has been active in professional associations for much of his career. He has been a member of the Mercer County Bar Association since 2007 and belongs to the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Since 2012 he has counted himself among the Collaborative Professionals of Northwest Pennsylvania and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. That membership pattern points to sustained engagement with collaborative practice and dispute resolution techniques.
Colleagues describe him as someone who understands the mechanics of state-court practice and the procedural steps that shape litigation. His background includes work as a law clerk, years in a mid-sized regional firm, and subsequent partner roles at two different firms. Those experiences have given him familiarity with both case development and the administrative side of running a practice.
Outside the office he has maintained ties to the Mercer County legal community through ongoing bar activity. He has also participated in professional groups that focus on collaborative approaches to resolving disputes. He currently practices at Margaret T. Lucas, Lawyer at Law, P.C., and concentrates on collaborative practice and dispute resolution in Pennsylvania.
