About Ruby Lichte
Ruby Lichte Powers is the founder of Powers Law Group, P.C., a prominent immigration law firm located in Houston, Texas. Established in 2009, the firm is known for its expertise in immigration law, including waivers of inadmissibility, asylum, deportation, and family- and employment-based petitions. Powers is Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction that shows her commitment to excellence in this complex field. Powers earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2005. Prior to that, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Government from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000.
After being admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November 2008, she worked working at Garza and Associates in 2009 and Scott and Associates from 2008 to 2009. Additionally, her role as a law clerk at Tindall and Foster (now Foster Quan) in 2007 provided her with a strong foundation in immigration law. Throughout her career, Powers has represented individuals from over 35 countries seeking asylum in the United States. As a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), she has held various leadership roles, including Chair of the Law Practice Management Committee and Vice-Chair of the Media Advocacy Committee. Her contributions to the legal community have not gone unnoticed; she received the AILA Advocacy Award in 2017 and was named among Houston's 50 Most Influential Women in 2022. Powers is also dedicated to education and community service.
She is fluent in both Spanish and French, which enhances her ability to serve a diverse client base. As an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law Houston, she teaches Law Office Management, sharing her expertise with aspiring legal professionals. Additionally, she instructs entrepreneurship courses for Spanish-speaking business owners at Houston Community College, further demonstrating her commitment to empowering others in her community.
