About Roy J. Smith
Roy J. Smith IV is a Florida attorney whose career has centered on family law and dispute resolution. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from Nova Southeastern University in 1997 and went on to receive a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 2000. Those academic steps led him back to Central Florida to begin practicing law.
He joined Rissman, Weisberg, Donahue & McLain as a lawyer in 2001. Two years later he became a partner at Weiss Legal Group, P.A., where he handled matters that drew on both litigation and negotiated solutions. In 2010 he took on a partnership role at The Smith Family Law Office, P.A., where he remains in practice.
Smith holds certifications from the Florida Supreme Court as a Certified Family Law Mediator and as a Circuit Civil Mediator. Those credentials allow him to serve as a neutral third party in settlement sessions and to conduct court-ordered mediation in family and circuit civil matters. The certifications reflect formal training and approval by the state’s highest judicial body.
Professional activity outside the courtroom has been steady. He maintains memberships in the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association, the Florida Justice Association (EAGLE), the Seminole County Bar Association, the Collaborative Family Law Group of Central Florida, and the Central Florida Family Law Inn of Court. These affiliations keep him connected to regional practitioners and to developments in family and civil litigation practice.
Colleagues describe his work style as methodical. He has handled contested matters and mediated disputes, often moving between negotiation and court filings as cases require. His record includes trial work earlier in his career and more recent emphasis on mediated settlements and collaborative processes. He has balanced courtroom preparation with efforts to resolve disputes outside of trial when possible.
Smith practices in Florida and continues to base his work at The Smith Family Law Office, P.A. He maintains an active role in family law and mediation matters at the firm.
