About Ross J.
Ross J. Switkes earned his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2010 after completing a bachelor’s degree at Ramapo College in 2007. He arrived in the profession at a time when bankruptcy and restructuring work was becoming increasingly complex. His formal education laid the groundwork for courtroom practice and transactional work in multiple jurisdictions.
He began building his practice shortly after law school. Over time he gained admissions to several federal and state courts, including the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the District of Columbia, as well as the states of New York and New Jersey. Those admissions enabled him to handle matters that cross state lines and to appear in bankruptcy-related litigation in federal forums.
In 2022 he assumed the role of Of Counsel at Sherman, Silverstein, Kohl, Rose & Podolsky, P.A. That position followed years of work on bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring matters for a range of clients. He has advised creditors, debtors and committees. His practice has included both contested and negotiated matters, where he has prepared pleadings, negotiated plans and attended hearings.
Outside of private practice he participates in court and professional circles. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Lawyers Advisory Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. He also holds memberships in the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, the New Jersey and New York State Bar Associations, and the Mercer County Bar Association. Those roles offer him regular contact with bankruptcy judges, trustees and other practitioners.
Colleagues and clients describe his work in practical terms: managing complex case schedules, drafting substantive motions, and counseling clients on restructuring options. He handles adversary proceedings and contested confirmation matters as well as out-of-court workouts. The mix of litigation and transactional tasks reflects the demands of modern insolvency practice.
He maintains offices with Sherman, Silverstein, Kohl, Rose & Podolsky, P.A. in New Jersey. He continues to appear in federal district courts and bankruptcy courts around the region. Currently he practices as Of Counsel at Sherman, Silverstein, Kohl, Rose & Podolsky, P.A., concentrating on bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
