About Robert W.

Robert W. Maring built a foundation in public affairs and law that began at The Citadel, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1987. He continued his studies at the University of South Carolina School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1991. Those years of study combined a military-influenced undergraduate education with four years of legal training. The result was a lawyer prepared to practice in South Carolina courts and to advise clients on legal matters that touch both public and private interests.

After law school, Maring entered practice in South Carolina and has worked in the state’s legal community since the early 1990s. He has practiced through changing legal landscapes and shifting business climates. His career spans several decades, a period in which he has seen how state law, court procedure and client expectations evolve. He has taken on cases that required courtroom presence as well as matters that were solved through negotiation and document work.

Over time Maring’s work has taken him into the daily rhythms of client counseling and case preparation. He has represented individuals and entities in proceedings that required careful pleading, close attention to deadlines and an eye on both immediate and long-term consequences. Colleagues describe him as steady and direct in how he handles factual and legal issues, preferring clarity over flourish in legal writing and argument.

Maring practices at Maring & Moody, LLC. The firm provides legal services across South Carolina. At the firm he collaborates with other attorneys and staff to manage caseloads, prepare filings and represent clients in court. The firm setting has allowed him to combine solo practice instincts—personal attention to clients—with the resources of a small firm.

Outside the courtroom, Maring’s background in political science informs how he evaluates statutory text and administrative rules. He reads statutes and regulations closely. That habit shapes his approach to client matters that hinge on statutory interpretation or procedural compliance.

He continues to live and work in South Carolina, where his practice has been centered for more than three decades. He currently practices at Maring & Moody, LLC, providing legal services to clients throughout South Carolina.
