About Robert W.
Robert W. Bishop is an attorney who practices in Michigan and in the federal courts that serve the state. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University in 1999 and completed his J.D. at Michigan State University College of Law in 2003. Those academic years bridged a shift from corporate procurement into law, a transition reflected later in his professional roles.
Early in his career he worked as a corporate buyer for ThyssenKrupp after finishing his undergraduate degree. He entered private practice as an associate at Jack Berman & Associates, P.C. in 2003, the same year he joined the State Bar of Michigan. Over time he moved into roles that combined legal work with operational oversight. He became a partner at Bankruptcy Lawyers of Michigan, PLLC in 2011, and then moved into management positions at creditors’ firms, serving as Manager of Bankruptcy & Probate Operations at Asset Acceptance in 2012 and as Senior Manager of Operations at Encore Capital Group in 2013.
In 2015 he returned to private practice leadership as Managing Partner of Bishop Law Offices. The firm lists multiple office locations. Bishop is admitted to practice in Michigan and is a member of the federal bars for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan; he joined the Eastern District federal bar in 2004 and the Western District bar in 2009. His membership in the State Bar of Michigan dates to 2003.
Bishop’s professional affiliations include the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Consumer Bankruptcy Association, both of which he joined in 2003. He is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers. Those memberships reflect the thrust of his practice, which has centered on consumer bankruptcy matters and related proceedings for much of his career. His background in operations at large debt buyers gives him experience on both sides of bankruptcy administration and claims processing.
Colleagues and clients describe a lawyer who combines courtroom experience with an understanding of bankruptcy systems and creditor operations. He handles Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, adversary proceedings, and contested matters in state and federal courts across Michigan. He now practices consumer bankruptcy and related litigation in Michigan and in the federal courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.
