About Robert Van

Robert Van Horn built a steady legal trajectory from liberal arts classrooms to the courtroom. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 2000 with a B.A. in English and Political Science. He spent time at the University of Arizona in 2002 and earned his J.D. from Washington & Lee University in 2006. That sequence of study set the stage for a mix of clerkship and prosecutorial exposure in the years that followed.

Fresh out of law school, Van Horn served as a clerk in 2007 for the Rockbridge Circuit Court in Lexington, Virginia. The next year he took an internship at the Office of the United States Lawyer in Bangor, Maine. Those early roles gave him practical courtroom experience and familiarity with both state and federal procedures. In 2009 he opened the Van Horn Law Office and began practicing as a lawyer in Maine.

Since 2009 Van Horn has maintained memberships in several professional organizations. He belongs to the American Bar Association and the Maine State Bar Association. He also serves on the board of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those ties place him in regular contact with colleagues who handle litigation, trial strategy, and criminal defense policy in the state.

He is admitted to practice in Maine and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. His caseload has included criminal defense matters in state and federal courts. He handles courtroom appearances, pretrial motions, and sentencing proceedings. Colleagues describe his work as methodical; clients have relied on him for representation at each stage of a case. He balances courtroom advocacy with written work, preparing briefs and motions that respond to prosecutorial filings and judicial orders.

Van Horn runs the Van Horn Law Office, where he manages client intake, case preparation, and litigation tasks. The office handles a range of criminal defense matters and related procedural work in Maine courts. He continues to participate in bar activities and the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers while focusing his practice on defending individuals in state and federal proceedings.

He practices from the Van Horn Law Office and represents clients in Maine state and federal courts, concentrating on criminal defense matters.
